This standard provides the requirements and specifications for the check background and the location of the numerical convenience amount field for any paper document in the payment transfer system.

Print Specifications for Magnetic Ink Character Recognition - X9.27

This standard specifies the shape, dimensions, and tolerance for the ten numerals and four special symbols printed in magnetic ink and used for the purpose of automated character recognition. It was developed initially for use in banks to permit automated document handling in bank data processing, but it also has application in other automated document handling systems.
